According to a Capitol Hill newspaper, two worried freshman Democratic representatives have indicated to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that they are unwilling to vote on the Baldwin Amendment. The amendment would change HR 3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), by adding adding language removed from the previous version of ENDA, HR 2015. That language protects workers on the basis of gender identity and expression.
At a House breakfast, reports The Hill, House Education and Labor panel Chairman George Miller of California told the two representatives that not only did the Baldwin Amendment not have the votes to pass the House, but voting in favor of it would open them to political attacks from all sides.
