Video: Senator Larry Craig reconsidering resignation; Blogger Rogers on Hannity and Colmes

by David Edwards and Adam Doster

(Via Raw Story) - Sen. Larry Craig, who originally resigned from his Senate post after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting, is reconsidering his decision, his spokesman said Tuesday evening.

"We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight - and stay in the Senate," said Sidney Smith, Craig's Idaho spokesman.

Dan Whiting, Craig's spokesmen in Washington, said that the senator was expected to spend the week in Idaho as the Senate votes on spending bills for veterans and other programs this week. Whiting "did not rule out Craig's returning to Washington before the end of the month."

Blogger Mike Rogers, who outed Craig last October, assured viewers of Fox's Hannity & Colmes that Craig is indeed a homosexual with an anti-gay voting record. "Larry Craig is a hypocrite. He is an anti-gay, closeted homosexual who has sex with other men," he says.

While Craig did commit a crime, Rogers argues that Republicans have a double standard when it comes to punishing lawmakers who have run-ins with the law. "It's astonishing to me to see, regardless of this incident, how there's a different set of rules for Larry Craig because he was with men, then say a Rep. Kevin Brady, who was guilty of a drunk driving offense."

Host Sean Hannity quickly responded that "I would say there are a different set of rules for Clinton, or for Jerry Studs," alluding to sexual indiscretions. Rogers countered, "But Bill Clinton was impeached!"

When asked whether Craig should resign, Rogers added, "I think that’s really up to the voters of Idaho. But I also think to look at the party, and the party has hung him out to dry."
