Colbert: Why can't Anglicans just ordain gay priests and not talk about it, like the Catholics do?

by PageOneQ

As the battle over ordaining gay priests continues, Stephen Colbert asks the New York Times' Laurie Goodstein: Why can't the Anglicans just do it and not talk about it, like the Catholic Church does?

Controversy abounds over New Hampshire's openly gay bishop V. Gene Robinson, ordained in 2003 by the Episcopalians, a division of the Anglicans, causing international outrage and branch secessions. Robinson, disinvited from this year's Lambeth Conference in England, appeared anyway, while 300 churches boycotted it, holding a separate conference in Jerusalem.

The following clip was aired on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report on July 24, 2008.
