Nick Langewis San Francisco city employee Charlene Hastings, 57, was told by her surgeon that hospital policy barred him from performing surgery contrary to the ownership's Catholic beliefs, including "transgender surgery." The surgeon, Dr. Leonard Gray, reportedly continues enlarging the breasts of biologically born women unhindered. "I think God loves me no matter what," says Hastings, who was raised Catholic. Hastings and her counsel contend that barring even an elective medical procedure on the basis of gender identity is a violation of California's Unruh Act, which offers no religious exemption for withholding services. "It is about transgender people being able to use businesses and other facilities on an equal basis as other people," says Hastings' attorney Christopher Dolan. "If you took out 'transgender' in the lawsuit and replaced it with 'African-American,' this would be a no-brainer." The entire article can be read HERE.
