PageOneQ "Wouldn't do it," marriage equality opponent and Virginia GOP Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. told the Charlottesville Daily Progress Wednesday. "Haven't even seen it. Wouldn't see it." The 2003 film, "Eden's Curve," included a part played by Linwood Duncan, Goode's gay press secretary. Based on a true story, "Eden's Curve" follows a young man in college exploring his sexuality who begins a relationship with a poetry professor. Goode and his wife Lucy are mentioned in the film's closing credits. At issue is a $150,000 earmark for the Danville, Virginia art house theatre run by the movie's writer and producer Jerry Meadors. The funds were part of an economic development grant as part of the theatre's $3.5 million renovation by businessman and Goode campaign contributor Roy Gignac. "Virgil Goode had nothing to do with the film," said Meadors. "I was just thanking everyone in the community who had been supportive...He didn't give us a dime. I'm sure he hasn't even seen the film." Meadors is the theatre's Artistic Director, and Linwood Duncan is on its Board of Directors. "We just learned about this," Goode's spokeswoman Jessica Barba said. "We’re still trying to process the details. We’re not going to comment on this right now." Mike Rogers is Publisher of PageOneQ.
