PageOneQ As the Republican National Convention kicks off in Minnesota's capitol, a cheeky ad campaign encourages the locals, including gays, to embrace their visitors. The UnConvention, partially funded by the McKnight Foundation, bills itself as a "non-partisan collective of citizens who have come together to create a forum in which to promote the democratic and free exchange of ideas on important issues." Its participants come from the local business and art communities as well as political organizations. "It exists as a counterpoint to the highly scripted and predetermined nature of the contemporary presidential nomination process and convention," the website adds. The "Make an Effort" ad campaign is one of numerous art, video and theatre projects sanctioned by The UnConvention. Segments in addition to "Park," embedded below, are available to view on The UnConvention's YouTube channel.
