PageOneQ "Governor Dean's appointment of a record seven LGBT members to the convention committees, including four on the platform committee, is a historic step forward for our community," Brian Bond, Executive Director of the DNC Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council, told PageOneQ, "and an example of the Democratic Party's unwavering commitment to equality and true empowerment for the community." In a statement issued by the party, Governor Dean said, "The record turnout and enthusiasm we've seen for our Democratic candidates is a clear sign that Americans trust Democrats to bring much needed change to our country." "These outstanding leaders," he added, "reflect the great strength, diversity and energy of the Democratic Party, and I'm confident their efforts will ensure our Convention in Denver is reflective of our shared values and our nominee's vision for America."
In advance of the party's nominating convention in Denver this summer, the Democratic National Committee has made a record-breaking number of out LGBT appointments, including its first transgender committee member, Diego Sanchez. Sanchez, of the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, joins Dr. Marjorie Hill of Gay Men's Health Crisis, Alabama State Representative Patricia Todd, and Virginia's Ingrid Duran on the Platform Committee. Vermont's Bob Rogan joins the Credentials Committee, and California's Claire Lucas and Evan Low are now part of the Rules Committee.
