Keith Olbermann slams Elizabeth Dole for proposing Jesse Helms' name on HIV funding bill

Senator Elizabeth Dole has come under fire in the media and in the blogosphere for her proposal to add the name of the late US Senator Jesse Helms to the bill the Senate passed Wednesday which would triple funding for the global fight against HIV and repeal a ban on admitting HIV-positive immigrants and tourists into the United States.

"Senator?" MSNBC's Keith Olbermann asks. "Do you realize that Helms opposed AIDS treatment, AIDS research, AIDS prevention--he opposed everything about AIDS except blaming the victims? And not just in the blind panic days: As late as 2002, he blamed the disease on homosexuality. You should not name an AIDS bill after Jesse Helms; they should name a gay-bashing organization after him."
