PageOneQ Performing solo vocals and playing a 12-string guitar, Etheridge was accompanied by Phillip Sayce, who also played guitar. The out lesbian musician began a medley of songs with God Bless America. The set also included Bob Dylan's The Times They Are a-Changin' and John Lennon's Give Peace a Chance. In a rousing finale to the set, Etheridge performed a strong version of Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA before returning to a brief encore of God Bless America. Etheridge, a Grammy and Academy Award winning musician, is a breast cancer survivor and active member of the LGBT civil rights community. She served as a co-panelist of the Human Rights Campaign presidential forum in August of 2007.
With a bit of country twang to her voice and a guitar in her hand, rock and roll star Melissa Etheridge took to the stage of a jam packed Pepsi Center in Denver, site of the Democratic National Convention, to perform a set of well known favorites for the exuberant crowd.
